Accommocation info

Camping

general camping area adjacent to the event site Rautiala festive house. You will need to bring your own tent and sleeping gear.

Shared rooms

Sleeping in a bed in a shared room, bed linen is provided. Rooms are located in small, simple buildings across the event site. Some buildings have a water toilet, others do not have toilet facilities -> shared facilities nearby.

There are rooms for 2, 3 and 4 people as well as some double beds plus family rooms with space for a bring-your-own baby bed available, so if you come with family or friends you can have your own ”private” room. Write who you want to share with in the comments of the webshop or pay for the whole party at once - which is easiest.

Meals

Breakfast is served by Kurjen ecovillage and will be a simple but satisfying, porridge-based meal with toppings, coffee and tea.
Day meals on Friday and Saturday (lunch, dinner) are prepared to us by the local catering company Tiina Kranssi Oy. Lunches are buffet-style soups accompanied with bread, and dinner is then "fork-food"  based on seasonal vegetables.

There will be a self-service coffee and snack vending station onsite and a café daily after lunchtime for the sweet tooth and snack needs. Please take cash (euros) with you to use the snack station and café!

All food is lactose-free and vegetarian. You can tell us if you need vegan and/or gluten free food in the comments while making your payment.

Thursday’s dinner will be potluck style with some help from Kurjen ecovillage, so please bring a share to the common table!

Please bring your own plate, cutlery and mug.

Q&A (Questions and Answers)

My child is 6 years old, do I have to buy them a full ticket?
We have to pay for every sleeping place and every meal we provide to you. If your five-or-six-year-old eats mostly from your plate and (if you have booked a room) sleeps in your bed it’s ok to say they’re four. If they’d like their own plates of food and needs their own bed, please pay for them, as we will have to pay for their spot, too.

Will there be drinking onsite?
No, this is a sober and of course completely drug-free event. There will be designated places for smoking tobacco.

Are there tents available onsite?
No, you will need to bring your own tent.

Can I bring my dog?
Dogs can come into the area, but not the indoor spaces. So you can camp with a dog. And be aware that there are dogs in the neighborhood and some other people might also bring dogs, so keeping them on leash & as calm as possible is necessary.

How has accessibility been taken into account?
Several buildings have wheelchair access, and several workshops are also outdoors. There are no hearing aids on the premises. We have a reserved toilet for people with gut problems, and otherwise there are plenty of toilets available also. The festival has a quiet space inside and outside, if the sensory irritation starts to be too much at some point. If you need an assistant or e.g. a guide dog, they are of course welcome to the event with you free of charge. Please contact us in time to arrange the matter!

Can I come with my caravan?
Ask. We have a few caravan places at camping prices. No caravan facilities or electricity available. Contact us before booking at festival [at] permakulttuuri [dot] fi to clarify availability.

Why does a permaculture festival cost anything? Isn’t this kind of thing supposed to be free?
Well, no. Permaculture is not and has never been an anti-money movement in itself. To think that ”everything permaculture” should be free is just not correct.

When it comes to fair share, an integral ethic of permaculture, it is sometimes fair that things, events or courses are free. In fact, the program of this event is very much for free, as it is from us for us, co-created by the community and no teacher is getting paid to share their work. What the fee covers is the food, accommodation and the facilities that are needed to create such a festival. Costs exist and there is no ”someone” who can cover them for everyone. The fees are fair: no one is making a profit out of this festival. All the money that comes in as ticket fees, sponsor money or donations is used to create the festival, and a little bit is donated on to the next year’s festival – just like we got a donation from the Swedish permaculture association.
